Easy-to-Follow Steps for Sharing the Gospel

This step-by-step guide will help you share the gospel with ease. Follow each step to connect with others and share your unique story, making it simple to spread the good news of the gospel.

STEP 1: FIND A GOSPEL PARTNER

Build Confidence Together

Ask someone to be your gospel partner and join you in praying for your Just 1 candidates. Practice sharing the gospel with them.
Luke 10:1

Agree on times to practice sharing the gospel with your gospel partner.

Join your gospel partner in regular prayer. Ask God to send someone to share the gospel with each week.

STEP 2: WRITE YOUR TESTIMONY

Your Story Matters

Here’s a simple guide to sharing your testimony. Share your personal experiences, like in John 9:24-25. Your story is powerful, can overcome the devil’s work, and highlights God’s goodness.

Revelation 12:10-11 & Mark 5:18-20

Fill in the blanks with 5 words or less.

This is a description of your life before Christ.
Example: I was lost and hopeless. I was addicted. I was sad and lonely, etc.

This is a description of how you gave your life to Christ.
Example: Forgave my sin; gave me purpose; delivered me from addiction, etc.

This is a description of your life after your conversion.
Example: I have purpose; I attend church; God has given me hope and a future.

STEP 4: SHARE THE SALVATION ABC’S

It’s as simple as ABC

The goal of sharing the gospel is to help people make a decision to accept Christ, which means accepting Jesus as their Savior and committing to follow Him. Toward the end of your conversation, you can say, “Accepting Christ is as easy as ABC” to guide them in making this important decision.

Admit that you are a sinner and the penalty of sin is death.
Romans 3:23 & Romans 6:23

Ask: Do you admit that?

Believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead.
Romans 10:9

Ask: Do you believe that?

Confess Jesus as your Savior by repenting of your sin and obeying His word.
Mark 1:15 & Acts 3:19

Ask: Are you ready to confess Jesus as Lord?

If they respond that they are ready to Admit, Believe, and Confess, lead them in a simple prayer to accept Christ.

Dear God,
I admit that I’m a sinner and that the penalty of my sin is death.

I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that He died and rose from the dead for my sin.

I confess Jesus as my savior and repent of my sin.

Please forgive me and fill me with the Holy Spirit.

I pray this in Jesus’ name,

amen.

STEP 5: LEARN HOW TO SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH STORIES

A Glove, a Bookshelf & Whitney Houston

In conversation, these stories can be powerful tools to help others see the gospel clearly and tangibly.

  • Finding Purpose in God’s Presence

This metaphor is a great way to open a gospel conversation. Before you explain how God created us for loving relationship with Him, start with the Glove Story.

A glove is made in the image of a hand.

The glove is lifeless until a hand is in it.

    In the same way…

We were created in the image of God. We are lifeless without God’s presence in us. God’s presence in us brings life, purpose, and power.

  • God Meets Us Where We’re At

The story of the bookshelf can be used during your conversation when explaining why we need a perfect role model.

A young boy could not reach the book at the top of the bookshelf.

His father grabbed the book and brought it down to him.

    In the same way…

Religion is man’s failed attempt to get “up” to God in heaven.

Therefore, God became man in Jesus Christ and came “down” to us as our role model.

  • The Hypocrite Accusation

If someone accuses Christians of being hypocrites, you can respond by asking them, “Have you ever heard someone try to sing a Whitney Houston song?

Do they ever sing it as good as she did?

    In the same way…

If no one can perfectly imitate Whitney Houston, how can we be expected to perfectly imitate Jesus?”

STEP 6: THE PEACE CONVERSATION

Cultivating Peace in Your Conversations

Each gospel conversation should be peaceful, not confrontational. Share God's love kindly, avoiding arguments and division. Matthew 5:9

Prayerfully Prepare | Acts 1:12-14 & Ephesians 6:12

Sharing the gospel is a spiritual exercise that needs prayer.

Express Love | Matthew 22:37-40 & 1 John 4:18

Maintain loving relationships with non-Christians.

Ask Questions | Proverbs 18:13

Would you mind if I shared a story with you?

Compassionately Share the Gospel | Mark 16:15

Share the gospel through your personal story or the Gospel 9.

Establish a Next Step | Acts 26:28

Ask for a decision to follow Christ or meet again to talk more. Commit to praying for them.

STEP 7: SHARE THE GOSPEL
